Meatballs

DESCRIPTION

Traditional Middle Eastern meal from minced meat with a special spice mixture, onion, potatoes and parsley. Balls of various sizes are made from this mixture. It has its origin from the Turkish cuisine from which it spread in the time of the Ottoman Empire to the West where it became in some European countries a part of traditional meals. We have the French, German, Russian and Swedish soup with meatballs.

They are prepared in various ways e.g. with tomato sauce, sometimes with béchamel and various other kinds of sauces and vegetables.

Concerning the meals of Oriental cuisine in which meatballs are used, the names vary according to the place and culture. So we have for example Dawood basha meatballs kofta with yoghurt or tomatoes or potatoes or Lebanese and Syrian Dawood basha kofta or Indian kebab.
